There was a time back when Olive Garden used to sell, in the summer months, a berry tart that came as a single serving (but could be shared if need be) multi-berry in a crust with ice cream dessert that I just loved. But they stopped.

Now, years later, I discovered it was really called a Galette and the size didn’t really matter. What did matter – it was a baked pastry filled with fruit surrounded by a crust – all cooked to perfection. Topped with a ice cream that melted into it filling your mouth with an ecstasy of flavors – the sweetness of the berries or fruit, the crunch of the golden crust and the coolness of the ice cream all blended together on your tongue.

Today was my first time making an attempt to create this wonderful dish I had in a memory. I will say that the above picture was immediately after they came out of the oven. Oh boy, as much as I fretted over doing this, they came out perfect.

I had made several searches with several different berries and fruit samples and after visiting the market, the blackberries looked the most inviting. I had picked up 3 small containers, not knowing exactly how much each contained. I soon discovered each container held 1-cup of berries each. After reviewing each recipe, the one chosen for today was Platings + Parings, easy recipes + what to pair with them!

The recipe is described as “This rustic Blackberry Galette is quick and easy dessert recipe that can be assembled in just 10 minutes using store-bought, refrigerated pie crust.” They were correct in all aspects. And it turned out great.

Will I do it again? Yes!!! We’re now in discussion of what other berries and/or fruit to try next – or even a mix berry blend. Hmmmm? That does sound yummy!!
